Worringer Platz Düsseldorf
With the Gasthof Worringer Platz, artists Oliver Gather and Andrea Knobloch have created a rather large, urban project space. It did not see itself as an interior space for the gallery-like presentation of artistic positions, but rather challenged the “hospitable” interaction on an urban square near the train station, between artists, travelers, residents and square users. The project did not use its own space for this and was always dependent on making contact and collaborating with the other square users as a guest. Only a glass house moved to the square was constantly available and acted as a starting point. Social spaces were developed in a variety of collaborations and opened up for exhibitions, performances, readings, film screenings and temporary installations. With the necessary process of mutual rapprochement, a dialog began in the course of which the concerns of the guests (artists) and hosts (residents and tradespeople) were formulated and condensed into an artistic event. The spatial program of the Gasthof Worringer Platz was always integrated differently into the everyday life of the square and could be experienced as a lively and dynamic place in the town.
The extensive archive documents the diverse artistic interventions in the urban space and can be viewed here:
