Worringer Platz, Düsseldorf
The question of the remaining significance of urban squares as social spaces was juxtaposed with the computer game as a new form of social communication, using the grammar of computer games to create a story consisting of four chapters (“levels”), which could be controlled by visitors and was implemented in real outdoor spaces with the help of actors. The central figure is a “hero” equipped with a head-mounted camera and a radio link for audio and video signals. He is the avatar of the respective player and is maneuvered by him through the parallel universe of the game. The passers-by and square users playing the game are given a very idiosyncratic approach to the urban environment they are familiar with from everyday life. Young people from the surrounding area are involved in the rehearsals and realization.
