Rekultivierung / Pride of Creation

The starting point for the film was a conversation with a renowned art professor about his artistic and ingenious creative perspective: ‘If I get up in the morning and no birds are chirping outside my window, then I want to be so far along with art that I don’t need all that, that I don’t miss any of it. That we can do it ourselves. I found that very inspiring, and a few days later I went to work together with my studio colleague, the artist Andreas Siekmann: for a first start, we decided to leaf out a small lilac tree ourselves….Fully 100 minutes, uncut in real time, the creative process is documented and becomes a calm image of a slow, laborious change. Seemingly documentary, the film is shot and staged backwards. All movements seem labored, clumsy, ponderous. The toil of modest creation is obvious, the presumption of an unreflected cult of genius becomes apparent.
